DescriptionMarble bust of Florence Nightingale

An English social reformer, statistician and the founder of modern nursing. Nightingale was in charge of nursing British and allied soldiers in Turkey during the Crimean War. Her efforts to formalise nursing education led her to establish the first scientifically based nursing school- the Nightingale School of Nursing, London. She was instrumental in setting up training for nurses and midwives in workhouse infirmaries. Crafted from Carrara, Connemara and Kilkenny marble and commissioned to commemmorate the 40th anniversary of the International Nursing and Midwifery Research and Education Conference in 2022.
