  <dc:description>Portrait sketch in pencil of Alice Reeves signed by Sean O'Sullivan RHA. Reeves was a nurse leader who contributed to the standardization and professionalization of nursing. She began her career as a ward sister at the Adelaide Hospital in Dublin before being appointed to the position of matron of the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital. In October 1918, she was appointed lady superintendent and matron of Dr Steevens' Hospital in Dublin.</dc:description>
