Description | Sir Charles A. Cameron (1830-1921) Presidential Badge. Seven pointed star badge with red and gold bow button attachment. Each point contains a white sapphire. The centre of the star contains the old College coat of arms and the College motto 'Consilio manque' in enamel and gold lettering. Accompanied the original box from West & Son, Jewellers and Silversmiths, Grafton House, Dublin. Manuscript inscription on box reads 'This badge belonged to Sir Charles Cameron. The College of Surgeons' old coat of arms and motto 'Consilio manque' are enamelled on it. The stones are either paste or white sapphire. It was probably used as a Presidential Badge. Presented in 1948 by Major Stanley, Windsor Ave., Belfast, whose wife was a daughter of Sir Charles'. Manuscript inscription on side of box reads 'This badge was introinced [sic] by Austin Meldon, P.R.C.S.I 1889'. Original box can be located in RCSI Heritage Collections, Mercer Library. |
