TitleThe National Florence Nightingale Committee of Ireland
DescriptionRecords relating to the National Florence Nightingale Committee of Ireland. The Committee was constituted in 1934 under the title 'The Florence Nightingale International Memorial' at around the same time that the Florence Nightingale International Foundation was established in London (July 5th, 1934). The decision was taken that the Foundation should work through National Committees. The objectives of the Committee in Ireland were as follows: "To promote and develop the post-basic education of the nursing profession; To select and recommend students for Florence Nightingale Scholarship; To frame regulations governing scholarships for nurses; To promote the objectives of the Foundation by making it known to the public and to the Nursing profession; To co-operate its educational activities with those of the National Red Cross Society; To raise funds for the establishment of scholarships in order to fulfill the objectives of the foundation; To accept subscriptions or donations."
