TitleLord Ballyedmond Guilds of Europe
DescriptionLarge ornate silver centre piece presented to the RCSI on 18th February 2006 by Lord Ballyedmond. There is a silver plaque on both sides with an inscription that reads 'This 19th century centrepiece and pair of candelabra were produced to celebrate the arts and the skills of that period in Europe. Presented to the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland on 18th February 2006 by the Right Honourable, the Lord Ballyedmond O.B.E on the occasion of the retirement of Professor Kevin O' Malley MD, PhD, DSc who was Registrar Chief Executive of this College from 1990 to 2004'. The piece is approx. 2 foot wide, 5 1/2 foot long and 5 foot high in the centre. The candelabra are approx. 4 foot high. The centre piece and candelabra are very ornately decorated with the shields of guilds displayed around the bottom, a sea scene at each end and 4 goddesses seated in the centre. Underneath each goddess there is a shield that says 'Maler Kunst' meaning the art of painting; 'Bygnings Kunst' the art of building; 'Billedhugger Kunst' the art of sculpting and 'Dekorations Kunst' the art of decorating. The language is Danish.
