TitleAbraham Colles centre piece
DescriptionLarge silver centre piece that is 30 inches high and weighs 27 pounds. There are three seated figures around the pediment; Aesculapius, Hygiea and Athene, with ornate decoration behind them that extends upwards covered in leaf motif. The three cameo scenes are the Good Samaritan Galen (with Roman army legionaries and standards) and possibly Vesalius the father of anatomy lecturing on the human body. All refer to Colles' work in surgery and anatomy. Inscription is divided into three panels that sit in-between the figures. Inscription reads 'Presented by the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland to Abraham Colles Esq. In gratitude for services rendered while professor to the School of Surgery in this School and in testimony of esteem for professional worth and integrity Dublin AD MDCCCXXXVIII'.
